Reformed Perspectives: A Seminary Called to Serve the Church
Published by Calvin Seminary

What began as a simple conversation grew into a series of Faculty workshops and, ultimately, a compilation of essays centered on the question:
“What does Calvin Theological Seminary mean when it says it is Reformed?”
These faculty essays explore that question through the lens of each contributor and their role at Calvin Theological Seminary.
In the foreword, Dr. Richard Mouw states, “The writers of these essays come across as confidently Reformed. They do not seem to feel the need to rehearse their Calvinist credentials. There is no time spent here assuring the larger world that Calvin Seminary ‘is still really Reformed.’ The essayists clearly are grateful for the legacy they have received from previous generations and are enthusiastic about using that gift to take on new challenges and opportunities in theological education.”

This collection of essays speaks to the continued importance of theological education amid questions about its relevance, identity, format, and necessity. As a whole, they show that at Calvin Theological Seminary, Reformed Christianity is not a dusty museum piece but a vibrant tradition that prepares people to serve the church and the kingdom of God today.
Whether you are exploring Reformed Christianity for the first time or looking more deeply into a familiar tradition, this collection invites you into the conversation. In a series of engaging essays, nine men and women who teach and work at Calvin Theological Seminary take up the challenge of answering these questions. Together, their perspectives help readers better understand the beliefs, history, and global experiences that shape Reformed Christianity and reflect on what this tradition means for Christian life and service today.
