Calvin Theological Seminary Announces Canadian Tuition Parity
Published by Calvin Seminary
GRAND RAPIDS, MI, December 2022 — Through a strategic collaboration in donor support, Calvin Theological Seminary (CTS) is announcing Canadian parity for tuition, as the seminary is now accepting CAD currency for USD tuition rates in the Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts in Bible and Theology, and Master of Arts in Christian Leadership degree programs.
This new initiative will incentivize, encourage, and support Canadians pursuing vocational ministry. The effort aims to address the Canadian-U.S. exchange rate of roughly 34%, which can be a significant deterrent to Canadians who are considering studying at CTS. Thanks to the generous support of the Bill Voortman Foundation and the Leder Charitable Foundation, CTS can now accept tuition dollars from Canadian students paid in CAD “at par.”
“Parity is an absolute game changer for Canadian students, and a clear indication of the seminary’s commitment to the church in Canada,” said Canadian Church Relations Liaison Shawn Brix. “This new initiative will allow us to further pursue our mission to form church leaders who cultivate communities of Christ followers—in Canada, and beyond.”
Parity will take effect for tuition payments for the spring of 2023, helping seminarians like David Vandokkumburg, an MDiv student from Hamilton, Ontario. Referring to the parity initiative, Vandokkumburg said, “For my wife and I, this feels like a significant burden lifted. Each of our careers require masters-level studies, and so to create a solution that will reduce the total amount of debt we face is a huge relief.”
