A family man, business leader, philanthropist, and friend of Calvin Theological Seminary, Peter Sturrus left a legacy on campus for generations of students. Among their history of faithful giving, Peter and his wife, Carolyn, had spearheaded efforts for recent seminary renovations, which are currently in their final stages. Their giving also reached across our shared campus to fund Calvin University’s Sturrus Track.

Sturrus died November 27, 2022, at age 89, and is remembered by the Calvin Seminary community.

“We give thanks for the life and legacy of Peter Sturrus who with his wife, Carolyn, provided the lead gift for the recent remodeling of the Calvin Theological Seminary building,” said President Jul Medenblik. “Their catalytic vision for hospitality, stewardship, and support of gospel ministry was contagious and helped us make our recent campaign a success—which I am so glad Peter was able to witness at a recent ribbon-cutting.”

“We hope and pray that Peter’s family and friends can take comfort from the legacy of faith, innovation, and encouragement that he provided throughout his life.”

The seminary community is asked to keep the Sturrus family in their prayers.
