DESCRIPTION:Join us for the annual Award for Scholarship on Christianity in Business(opens in new tab) at the Calvin University School of Business. \nWednesday\, September 23\n3:30–5:00 p.m.\nCalvin University School of Business \nThe Award for Scholarship on Christianity in Business recognizes an academic paper that makes an exceptional contribution to Christian theological inquiry in business or to the social scientific study of Christian religious phenomena in business. \nThis year’s recipient is Dr. Stephen Hawkins\, who will present and receive the award for his winning paper: \nHawkins\, S. (2024). Ministry or mutiny? The organizational antecedents of pastor-parishioner conflict. Journal of Management\, Spirituality & Religion\, 22(1)\, 743–767. \nLight refreshments will be offered from 3:30–4:00 p.m.\, with the presentation beginning at 4:00 p.m. \nAbout the Presentation\nDr. Hawkins’s research focuses on organizational structure\, leadership dynamics\, and institutional values within mission-driven organizations. His award-winning paper examines what can happen when churches do not clearly define who has decision-making authority. Unclear boundaries can contribute to tension\, power struggles\, and leadership challenges within congregations. \nAbout Dr. Stephen Hawkins\nDr. Stephen Hawkins has served as an ordained American Baptist pastor in Indiana and Wisconsin for the past 15 years. He also serves as Director of Spiritual Life and Service at Carroll University and teaches nonprofit management and research methods at Bexley Seabury Seminary. \nHe holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee\, an MBA from Marquette University\, an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary\, and a BA from Anderson University. \nOutside of his professional work\, he enjoys coaching his sons’ baseball team\, cross-country skiing with his wife\, and hiking with his two dogs. \nRegistration\nThis event is free\, but advance registration is requested for planning purposes. \nRegister for the event(opens in new tab). \nQuestions may be directed to kristin.groom@calvin.edu.
