Indonesian desserts will be served following the lecture. \nLecture Summary: \nThe country that we today call Indonesia has a long history that stretched back to the early modern era. This lecture guides the audience to the time when colonization started to reach the shores of the East Indian archipelago when the Europeans\, most notably the Iberians and the Dutch sailed there in search of spices\, the establishment of the Dutch East India Company\, and the beginning of the country of Indonesia in the middle of the twentieth century.
