She also practices internal medicine and teaches at Columbia University where she serves as director of the Center for Clinical Medical Ethics. \nDr. Dugdale is a Christian and a scholar in end-of-life issues\, medical ethics\, and the doctor-patient relationship. Her new book\, The Lost Art of Dying\, offers insight and thoughtful guidance on how to die well. Dr. Dugdale also authored Dying in the 21st Century. SUMMARY:2024 J-Term Elective Course: Ministry to and with Prisoners
DESCRIPTION:2024 J-Term Elective Course\nMinistry to and with Prisoners January 3-14\nThis course will explore many facets of ministering in prison.  Jesus expects his followers to engage with those in prison and in so doing meet him (Mt. 25:36).  Almost everyone in ministry eventually encounters the need for ministry to those in jail or prison.  This course will include topics such as life in prison\, prison congregations\, relating to those incarcerated\, injustices in the prison system\, the challenges of reentry\, mass incarceration\, and the transformative power of education.\nThe classes will feature interviews with prison wardens\, recently released inmates\, currently incarcerated prisoners\, and those in prison ministry.  As times and circumstances allow\, the class will travel to Mississippi State Penitentiary to interact with prisoners and MDOC employees to see what God has been doing there and the changes that have happened and are happening (4 days:  Jan. 3-7)). DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, November 24\, at 4:00 pm in the Student Center\, the Residential Student Advisory Team (RSAT)\, with the help of Eric Lynch\, is hosting a dinner for students and families looking for a traditional US Thanksgiving Dinner. Sam Ha\, our theological librarian and curator of the Meeter Center\, will discuss his forthcoming journal article\, “Toward a More Trinitarian Understanding of the Atonement: The Role of the Holy Spirit in Calvin’s Atonement Theology.” He will also share the process of writing and publishing this article\, so graduate students interested in developing their research and writing skills as well as trying their hand at publishing are warmly invited. Light lunch will be provided. \nThis academic year we will be having monthly mini colloquia where a faculty or staff member presents a paper that they prepare for a conference or publication and students\, faculty\, and staff are invited to hear the presentation and provide constructive feedback.
