SUMMARY:2024 J-Term Elective Course: Ministry to and with Prisoners
DESCRIPTION:2024 J-Term Elective Course\nMinistry to and with Prisoners January 3-14\nThis course will explore many facets of ministering in prison.  Jesus expects his followers to engage with those in prison and in so doing meet him (Mt. 25:36).  Almost everyone in ministry eventually encounters the need for ministry to those in jail or prison.  This course will include topics such as life in prison\, prison congregations\, relating to those incarcerated\, injustices in the prison system\, the challenges of reentry\, mass incarceration\, and the transformative power of education.\nThe classes will feature interviews with prison wardens\, recently released inmates\, currently incarcerated prisoners\, and those in prison ministry.  As times and circumstances allow\, the class will travel to Mississippi State Penitentiary to interact with prisoners and MDOC employees to see what God has been doing there and the changes that have happened and are happening (4 days:  Jan. 3-7)). DESCRIPTION: Event Series: Chapel\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Tuesday rhythm of Public Reading of Scripture (PRS) continues this semester – Tuesdays at noon\, in the Student Center as we continue listening together to God’s Word from Luke/Acts. We’ll listen together and then enjoy the lunch that is provided. \n  \nThe goal of this spiritual practice is to: \n\n\n\nBuild community among students\, faculty\, and staff\nCreate space for spiritual formation of students\, staff\, and faculty\nProvide experience with PRS for students who can then implement PRS in congregations\, ministries\, and non-profit organizations\nProvide experience\, training\, and coaching for student leaders on the leadership team

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 9\, 11:00am-1:00pm – The annual Medenblik Stick event will be held at the Eagles Ice Center\, 2600 Village Drive\, Grand Rapids\, MI 49506. \nFrom 11:00am to noon there will be open skating for faculty\, staff\, students\, family\, and friends. From noon-1:00pm we will play broomball. Brooms\, balls\, goals\, and helmets are all provided for free. All skill levels are welcome! Free hot chocolate! Come for fun\, fellowship\, skating\, and hot chocolate! See you there!
