It is important that you read the following information carefully. You will be responsible for the information on this page. If you skip this page and go right to registration, you will miss important information about how to register, and the specifics of late fees and particular courses.
The Spring 2013 course schedule is now available. Registration will open on Monday, November 12, at 7:00 a.m. Registration will close on Wednesday, November 28 at 11:59 p.m. If you fail to register by the November 28 deadline, you will incur a $50 late registration fee.
You will not be able to register if you have a balance on your account. You will either need to pay the bill in full, or make payment arrangements with the Financial Services office. The Registrar’s Office cannot open registration for you if you have a balance.

Once you are initially registered, you may change, add, or drop courses online without penalty until two weeks into the Spring semester – Monday, February 11, at 4:30 p.m..
All independent studies, major papers and theses must be registered by Friday, January 11, 2013 by 4:30 p.m. to avoid a $50 late fee.

Full-time students should consult the appropriate degree program chart on the web site.
Students taking the program at a different pace will likely have a program plan that the Registrar has reviewed with you at some point. If you’ve lost your copy of the plan, please send an e-mail to The Registrar’s Office and a copy of the plan will be put into your mailbox. If you’ve never developed a plan, and you would like to do so, you may set up an appointment with the Registrar. Contact The Registrar’s Office and suggest some times that work for you.
MDiv Students who haven’t completed six semesters of Mentoring Groups should register as follows:
- If you are in year one of your Mentoring Group, register for 752B.
- If you are in year two of your Mentoring Group, register for 754B.
- If you are in year three of your Mentoring Group, register for 756B.
MDiv students may take some of the ThM electives for two credits. If an elective beginning with the number 8 is listed twice on the schedule, the course without the T behind the number is an option for you.
To register for an independent study or a major paper, pick up the appropriate form from Denise Mokma, Administrative Assistant for Academic Affairs. When the form is completed, return it to her office.
If you need to meet an admission requirement in Philosophy, the course Philosophy for Understanding Theology (582B) will meet the requirement. The course can also serve as a Theological or General Elective in your program.
The following Spring courses can serve as an Exegetical Elective:
- Jeremiah and the Church (519B)
- Kingdom of God (533B)- OT or NT
- I and II Thessalonians (831B)
Please note that the course in Ephesians is not an exegetical elective. The course can serve as a general elective.
The course Sermon Applications (497B) is a Skill Development course that will meet for the first 6 weeks of the semester. Students are encouraged to audit the 1 credit Skill Development courses. MDiv students may take two Skill Development courses for credit to equal one general elective. Exceptions are Hebrew and Greek Review and Written Expression.
If you are registered for the evening section of Bible Survey (716B), you do not need to register the course again in the Spring. You were registered for all 3 credits in the Fall.
There are three courses scheduled for this Spring:
Church in Historical Context II (305D) - You may take this course even if you have not taken Church in Historical Context I. You may seek Advanced Placement in either Church in Historical Context I or Church in Historical Context II.
Greek Fundamentals 2 (410D) - This course assumes you have taken Greek Fundamentals I or its equivalent elsewhere.
Theological Education as Formation for Ministry (712D)
To accommodate transfer students or others who would like to take an additional course, we are also offering Preaching Theory and Methods (306D). Before taking this course, it is recommended (but not absolutely required) that you have started studying at least one of the original languages.
If you started your Mentoring Group this past Fall, you should continue by registering for 752D.
There are three courses available this Spring:
- CRC Polity (773BX, 1.5 credits) meets the first 6 weeks of the semester, beginning the week of January 28.
- CRC History (774BX, 1.5 credits) meets the second 6 weeks of the semester, beginning the week of March 18.
- Christian Theology in Reformed Confessions (303X-3 credits) meets the entire semester.
There are two core MA courses offered this Spring that are only offered once every two years. They are Church in Historical Context Survey (310B) and Foundations in Ministry: Fostering Intergenerational Communities of Disciples (731B). These two courses are required in all of the MA programs, except the MA in Bible and Theology. If you plan to graduate in 2013 or 2014, and have not yet taken one or both of these courses, you must take them this Spring.
All of the MA programs require one OT course and one NT course, except the MA in Bible and Theology, which requires two courses in OT and two courses in NT. There are three English Bible courses offered this Spring:
- Kingdom of God (533B3) can be used as a core course in either OT or NT
- Jeremiah and the Church (519B3) can be used as a core course in OT
- Ephesians (462B) can be used as a core course in NT
If you need to meet an admission requirement in Philosophy, the course Philosophy for Understanding Theology (582B) will meet the requirement.
MA Students who are in year one of their Mentoring Group should register for 781B.
MA Students in year two of their Mentoring Group should register for 783B.

MA: Worship students may register for Applied Musical Skills (470B). Students make arrangements with approved musical instructors and receive one credit for one term of lessons. Students may take lessons in two different terms for two credits, which would equal one elective in their program. Check with the Registrar for further details.
MTS Students who are in year one of their Mentoring Group should register for 766B.
MTS students who are in year two of their Mentoring Group should register for 768B.

Only PhD students may register for courses that begin with the number 9 and have a P listed after the number. ThM students may seek special permission to take a PhD level course if they meet the following criteria:
- They have been a student at CTS for minimum of one semester
- They have a minimum cumulative GPA at CTS of 3.3
- There is room in the course after PhD students have registered
We will not know if there is room in a PhD course until after registration has closed. If you would like to be on a waiting list to take a PhD course, you may contact the registrar at email hidden; JavaScript is required
ThM students who need to register an Independent Study, a major paper, or a thesis will need to download the appropriate form from the Registrar’s Office sidebar on the web site.
You will need to bring the necessary paper work, complete with the signature of your study/paper supervisor, to Dr. Avila’s office.
All forms must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 11 in order to avoid a $50 late fee. Though the forms are not due until January, you should make arrangements with a supervising professor well before that time.
ThM students with a concentration in Preaching may be interested in taking the Skill Development course in Sermon Applications (497BT). This is a one credit course, and you are encouraged to audit. The course meets the first 6 weeks of the semester only.
