May Term 2014 Registration Information

Students are not required to take a course during the May Term in order to maintain full-time status in their program. However, certain programs have core courses offered only during the May Term.

Before proceeding with registration for the May Term, please read this page carefully. Along with general information, there is information about the core courses and the electives below.

The May Term 2014 course schedule is now available. Registration for returning students will open on Monday, April 21, at 4:30 p.m. Registration will close on Friday, May 9 at 11:59 p.m. If you fail to register by the May 9 deadline, you will incur a $50 late registration fee.

Students graduating in May of 2014 must pay their May Term tuition before they graduate.  Other students must pay their May Term tuition no later than May 31.

Although you may still add a May Term course after the registration deadline, you will be assessed a $50 late registration fee. However, once you are initially registered, you may change or drop courses online without penalty, following the guidelines on the Tuition Rates and Fees page.
Summer internships are registered separately by the Mentored Ministries Office.

Registration of Papers, Independent Studies, and Theses

First degree students who need to register an independent study or a major paper can print one from the Registrar’s Office webpage, on the right, under Forms (  You must return the form with the necessary signatures to Denise Mokma by May 9 at 4:30 p.m.

ThM students who need to register an Independent Study or a Major Paper can download the appropriate form from the Registrar’s Office webpage, on the right, under Forms ( You will need to bring the necessary paper work, complete with the signature of your study/paper supervisor, to Dr. Avila’s office/mailbox by May 9 at 4:30 pm.

Core Course Information

Evangelism and Cross Cultural Ministry (441B). This course is taught by Ronald Vander Griend, Vice President of Development at Mission India.

Most MDiv students in their first year of studies (along with some others) are required to take this course.  The course is also required for students in the MA in Evangelism and Missions program.

MDiv students should take this course only if they are planning to do a cross-cultural internship in the summer of 2014 or are planning a concurrent Cross Cultural internship in the 2014/2015 academic year.

Please note that the course meets for several days in the May Term and then again for several days in late August.

Preaching Practicum I (433B) MDiv students who intend to take Preaching Practicum II (434B) in the Fall of 2014 are required to take this course in the May Term first.   This is a one credit course and meets for three days in the first week only (Tuesday-Thursday).  Students will sign up for either a morning or afternoon section and be placed in groups.

Leadership in Ministry (775B). Leadership in Ministry replaces the former Pastoral Leadership course (772B). Please note however, that the Leadership in Ministry course will have two required sessions in the May term, which will meet on May 29 and 30.  You will receive more information about this in an e-mail.
