Cornelius Plantinga Jr., is an ordained minister in the Christian Reformed Church and has served as a pastor in Webster, NY and supply preacher in Cliffwood Beach, NJ. Before joining the faculty at Calvin Theological Seminary, Cornelius Plantinga Jr. taught at Princeton Theological Seminary (1976 - 78), Fuller Theological Seminary (1985, 1987) and Regent College (1997). From 1996 to 2002 he served as the first ever Dean of the Chapel at Calvin College. He now serves as President of the seminary and teaches systematic theology. President Plantinga's vision for the seminary is for it to be a place where "the gospel will become the bass note that supports and accompanies all we do and think" as well as a place where an excellent education is provided.
"We need to provide top quality education in Bible, history, theology, and help students become deeper Christian people, from whom some of the beauty and urgency of the gospel shows through. These will be men and women who have been educated not by slogans, but by the power that naturally attaches to the gospel. They will know that 'God so loved the world' isn't just a Bible verse. It's a cry from the depths. It's almost a battle cry."
President Plantinga is married to Kathleen and they have two adult sons. He enjoys swimming, biking, golf, travel, reading, listening to music and practicing the violin.
President Plantinga has written several books including Not the Way It's Supposed to Be: A Breviary of Sin (1995), Engaging God's World: A Christian Vision of Faith, Learning and Living (2002), and Discerning the Spirits: A Guide to Thinking About Christian Worship (2003).
